A small world where teenage girls compete against one another leads to plenty of toxicity between them – Cady was rude due to her mother allowing her to push everyone around without facing consequences or consequences, leading up to her getting hit by the bus and its impact being seen as symbolic of how quickly her life was disintegrating before her eyes.

As for Sofia, her sunbathing scene reminds me of Natalie Press as Mona and Emily Blunt as Tamsin in Pawel Pawlikowski’s My Summer of Love; both mismatched teens are susceptible to insecurity that comes out when exposed, only for it all to unravel when these feelings surface and get explored further.
