Kristen Scott gives an outstanding performance as Sam, an 18-year-old girl exploring her sexuality in high school at a time when homosexuals were often subject to immense hostility and criticism. Kristen’s subtle acting conveys an image of an 18-year-old trying to define herself while navigating an unpredictable adolescence made more complicated by constant bullying of fellow students.

Aidra Fox and Kristen Scott’s first shared masturbation scene together is captivatingly seductive; its authenticity adds such weight to this scene that it feels more real than any other in the film. Bullied students will recall this scene vividly; its message resonates with any who have felt marginalized – gay or straight alike.

As the film unfolds, Sam is guided by mentor Mick (Kenna James), as she discovers her desires and how to please herself.
