Teenboysup – Why Sextortion Has Quadrupled in the United States

Since 2021, according to reports by Our Rescue and the FBI, sextortion cases involving teenage boys have quadrupled. A common scenario: someone poses as an attractive teenage girl on social media sites like Instagram or Snapchat and then solicits nude pictures from him – sometimes leading to suicide attempts as a result.

This crisis requires serious reflection on our expectations of teenage behavior in America, particularly here. For decades now, we’ve assumed that inappropriate and unlawful conduct are the sole purview of teenage boys, while this gendered double standard has deep-reaching ramifications.
